Adsorbents For Transformer Oil Regeneration

Sep 19, 2022 Leave a message

Transformer oil is oxidized and deteriorated to generate a series of oxidation products, which destroy the original excellent physical and chemical properties and electrical properties, so that it cannot be used. Usually, the transformer oil with a heavy degree of oxidation and deterioration is called waste oil. In fact, oxidation products in waste oil account for only a small part, generally 1-25%, and the remaining 75-99% are ideal components.

Types and properties of adsorbents for transformer oil regeneration:

Activated clay—used for the regeneration of transformer oil by contact method, the components that can be adsorbed: moisture, unsaturated hydrocarbons, resins and asphaltic organic acids, etc.

Coarse-pored silica gel - components that can be adsorbed: moisture, gas, organic acids and other oxidation products.

Activated alumina - components that can be adsorbed: organic acids and other oxidation products.

5A molecular sieve—components that can be adsorbed: moisture, gas, unsaturated hydrocarbons, organic acids and other oxidation products)

Factors affecting the effect of adsorbent regeneration treatment:

Oil temperature - the best operating temperature of different adsorbents should be selected. For example, when using activated alumina and silica gel adsorbents, the temperature is generally 30 to 50 °C, and for molecular sieve adsorbents, the temperature is generally 50 to 60 °C.

The regeneration treatment effect of the contact method is related to factors such as temperature, contact stirring time, adsorbent performance and dosage. The optimal process conditions for treatment should be determined according to the degree of deterioration of the transformer oil and through small tests.

Note: The regenerated transformer oil should be strictly filtered and purified before use to prevent residues such as adsorbents from being brought into the operating equipment.
